In honor of National Hospital Week, SSM Health made donations of personal care items to emergency care shelters in both Centralia and Mt. Vernon.
The initiative saw employees of St. Mary’s Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital donate two weeks’ worth of care items.
While the brainchild of SSM Vice President of Operations, Hollie Colle, Colle herself said the donation drive was all a team effort.
“We did a lot of special things during Healthcare Week, but this was especially nice to do, because the employees were really excited to give to something like,” said Colle. “It was really fun and engaging for our staff.”
“We have some of the most giving employees that are so mission focused. They are truly here for the mission, and you can see it in how they care for our patients daily. So, when we give our employees and opportunity like this, they definitely rally.”
St. Mary’s Hospital President, Damon Harbison, seconded Colle’s statements about the SSM Health staff, saying, “I couldn’t be more proud of our teams here; whether it’s volunteers, staff members, leadership, or physicians. The whole teams comes together.”
“They have big hearts and big minds, and they just want to do good work in the community. If they’re here on site participating in patient care, they are out in the community trying to bring things like this together.”
2025 National Hospital Week was held from May 11 through May 17.
