Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home celebrated its growing presence in the Centralia community Friday afternoon with a series of events, including a ribbon cutting in partnership with the Centralia Chamber of Commerce, walkthroughs of its historic building, and a butterfly release for those in attendance.
The butterfly release saw every guest set two butterflies free from a small, safe envelope, Funeral director Amanda Shroyer explained that the ceremony was meant to represent new life, transformation, and the everlasting importance of mothers and the women that guide us.
“Today we celebrate love in a very special way, signifying a new beginning and hope,” Shroyer said. “In many other cultures, the butterfly’s life reminds us that it’s not the length of time that matters but the beauty of the impact left behind. For the mothers who raided us and the women who guide us, their influence is lie the dust on a butterfly’s wings - elegant yet essential for flight.”
Following the butterfly release, the ribbon cutting was held on the funeral home’s grounds.
Matthew Packman, membership director for the Chamber, thanked Maxton-Rosado Funeral for its investment in Centralia and continual community involvement, as did Centralia mayor Bryan Kuder.
“We really appreciate you looking at Centralia as a home for your establishment and your business,” said Kuder. “Thank you for investing in Centralia, we really do appreciate it.”
Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home is owned by Bill and Vonda Rosado. The funeral home, which houses another location in DuQuoin, opened and began accepting arrangements in the summer of 2024 and underwent considerable renovations. It was announced by Shroyer on Friday that more renovations to the historic building at 134 S. Elm are on the way.
