Byrd Watson Pharmacy hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday afternoon in honor of its future location at 790 W. McCord.
The new location was the culmination of efforts from Bradford National Bank, which helped finance the project; Tyler and Traci Reuter, who owned the property; and Johannes Construction; which will perform the building.
Speaking to those in attendance Thursday, Byrd Watson owner, Kim Weiter said the new build will feature a drive-thru and other modern services, while retaining the historical relevance of the storied pharmacy.
“My vision for this store is to basically take the history of bird Watson and make sure that we are here in the future,” said Weiter, “We are adding the drive-thru, lots of things that will make a patient centered, community healthcare hub. That’s our goal for this new Byrd Watson.”
Tyler Reuter mentioned that the space was originally considered as a location for what became Westside Laundry, and insisted he was pleased to help continue the Byrd Watson legacy.
“All the light today gets shined on Byrd Watson and Kim Weiter and the history of Byrd Watson in Centralia.” said Reuter. “It’s a true example of what it takes for a community to come together, every peace and every component, to get a job like this done.”
Randy Alderman of Bradford National Bank, who explained the project began through a conversation between Vice President, Diane Cole, the Reuters and Byrd Watson, said, “That’s what community banks do, and Bradford Bank is just excited to be a part of this project.”
Johannes Construction is expected to begin work on the project soon.
