Ace Auto Sales and Detailing is all about evolution and growth, and owner Dustin Gansauer has spent the last 17 years putting that mission into practice.
Originally conceived as an auto sales and detailing business, Ace has since become a leading Illinois seller of Bad Boy Mowers following Gansauer’s 2021 purchase of Gary’s Outdoor in Odin.
The business has also recently found additional success through trailer and tractor sales, and a leading local supplier of the Yeti brand.
“Vehicles are still our number one [seller], though we were number four last year in the state of Illinois for mower sales,” said Gansuaer. “We are hoping to be number one in tractor sales this year since it is our first full year of doing it. Those are pretty big sales for us.”
Gansauer said he keeps his inventory stocked throughout the year, adding that he could see mower and tractor sales becoming the business’s primary focus over time.
“We have roughly 100 mowers in stock right now, and we usually keep about 50-to-60 in stock year-round,” Gansauer explained. “We are trying to do volume sales, and that’s why we have so much to offer in different sizes and with different engines.”
“We are trying to focus on growing that side of the business, and maybe one day that will be our main business. It was a great add-on to the business plan we already had.”
Discussing his customer base, Gansauer said Ace Auto Sales is constantly expanding its reach, building its reputation both inside and outside of Illinois.
“With our mowers, tractors and vehicles we are still reaching out further and further away,” he said. “We get a good mix of the local economy and out-of-state customers. It’s a good feeling when people travel from a few hours away because they know they can trust you.”
With an ever-widening reach, increasing product sales, and vehicle detailing appointments booked solid for months at a time, Gansauer insisted Ace Auto Sales still has room to grow.
“We’re still in the growing stage,” said Gansauer. “I feel like I’m never going to stop growing. My goal in Bad Boy is to be the number in the state for mower sales and also tractor sales. We were number nine in the state our first full year of selling mowers. Last year we were number four. I hope to see that number go up.”
Gansauer, a Centralia native and lifelong resident, has owned his own business since the age of 20. The business that ultimately became Ace Auto Sales was opened 17 years ago.
