SSM HEALTH OFFERING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

SSM Health is actively recruiting volunteers for its health ministries, with openings available in both general auxiliary and hospice services at its Centralia and Mt. Vernon locations.

“Volunteering has real health benefits. People who volunteer have a more optimistic outlook, increased energy, better perceived health, less pain, and an improved immune system,” said SSM Health in a statement. “If you have time to share, and enjoy helping others, then volunteering is for you! SSM Health St. Hospital in Centralia and Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon’s volunteer programs welcomes men and women ages 18 and older.”

Those wishing to volunteer in general areas may assist with cancer care; intensive care unit; same-day surgery; Patient Family Advisory Council (PFAC); Pastoral care; escort and wayfaring; music, pet and art therapy; the gift and resale shops; and special projects.

Those interested in hospice care will have the opportunity to experience caregiver relief, companionship, pet visits, and much more.

“We know hospice can be a difficult time for families. The SSM Health Volunteer Program is available to provide special care and attention to patients and their loved ones,” said the healthcare provider. “Our hospice volunteers are screened, trained, and supervised by the volunteer coordinator. They give their time because they care and want to serve others.”

Those interested in volunteering for general areas may use the QR codes on the flier to apply.

Those wishing to volunteer for hospice may either fill out the flier and give the completed form to a staff member or contact the SSM Health volunteer coordinator at 618-899-1630.
