IDOR Announces Disaster Tax Relief for Storm‑Impacted Counties
Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) are offering temporary tax relief for individuals and businesses affected by severe weather across 11 Illinois counties between March 10 and June 21, 2026.
Who Qualifies
Residents and businesses in state‑declared disaster areas:
Coles, Cook, Effingham, Jefferson. Kankakee, LaSalle, McLean, Stephenson, Warren, Winnebago, and Woodford.
(Additional counties added to the disaster proclamation will also qualify.)
Available Relief
Taxpayers may request a waiver of penalties and interest if storms prevented them from filing or paying on time. Relief covers:
Income tax
Withholding tax
Sales tax
Specialty and excise taxes
How to Request Relief
Submit a brief explanation of why the storm impacted your ability to file or pay, including:
Full name
Account number (last four digits if using SSN)
Mailing address
Estimated date you can file or pay
Send your request to:
Email: REV.DisasterRelief@illinois.gov
Mail: Use the address on your return and write “Severe Storms – Summer 2026” in red ink at the top.
If you have already been billed for penalties, email REV.DisasterRelief@illinois.gov with your name, business name, account number(s), and affected filing periods.
Additional Information
Property owners with damage should contact their county supervisor of assessments to inquire about reassessment.
Motor Fuel Use Tax (IFTA) is not included in this relief. For IFTA inquiries, email REV.IFTA@illinois.gov.
