Governor Pritzker Announces Intermountain Electronics’ Centralia Expansion

Governor JB Pritzker, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), and Intermountain Electronics announced the company will invest more than $15 million to expand their operations by adding more than 108,000 square feet of manufacturing space while creating 60 new full-time jobs and retaining their current workforce.
“Illinois has a storied tradition as a manufacturing powerhouse, and we are thrilled Intermountain Electronics chose to expand in Centralia. The company’s expansion will advance our clean energy production, create new jobs, and support Southern Illinois communities,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “In Centralia and communities across the state, investments like these are driving innovation forward and delivering new opportunities for our world-class workforce.”
“Intermountain Electronics’ expansion in Centralia is another example of Illinois’ growing leadership in clean energy manufacturing and advanced industry,” said Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton. “This investment will create good-paying jobs, strengthen Southern Illinois’ economy, and help ensure our state remains at the forefront of innovation, energy reliability, and workforce development for years to come.”
Governor Pritzker has committed to growing the clean energy production and advanced manufacturing industries, which continue to thrive because of strong State leadership and a commitment to fostering innovation, sustainability, and long-term economic competitiveness. This announcement adds to a growing list of clean energy manufacturers that have recently chosen to expand or establish their business in Illinois, including Cache Energy, Nano Nuclear, Richardson Electronics, Pure Lithium, and more.

Founded in 1985, Intermountain Electronics has grown from a small equipment repair company into a nationally recognized manufacturer of heavy electrical equipment and engineered power solutions. The Centralia facility, which opened in 2012 with just 12 employees, has expanded nearly fourfold in square footage and now employs 141 people. Following completion of the expansion, employment at the Centralia site is expected to reach approximately 201 employees by the end of 2028.

The expansion project is designed to significantly increase capacity for the production of Power Distribution Units (PDUs), which are critical infrastructure components supporting renewable energy integration, and artificial intelligence applications. Intermountain Electronics’ PDUs enable consistent, clean power delivery by leveling fluctuations from renewable energy sources such as wind and solar.

This expansion positions our Centralia team at the forefront of that growth while creating high-quality jobs and long-term economic opportunity for the region.”
Intermountain Electronics has also worked closely with local and regional workforce partners, including Kaskaskia College, Centralia High School, and the Illinois Department of Employment Security, to establish registered apprenticeship and training programs that will support hiring and retention as production scales.

Guided by Illinois’ Economic Growth Plan, the Reimagining Energy and Vehicles in Illinois (REV Illinois) program supports a key growth industry for the state – clean energy production and manufacturing. REV Illinois offers competitive incentives for companies all along the supply chain in the electric vehicle and renewables sector to expand in or relocate to Illinois.
