Aimed at assisting local homeowners with energy saving opportunities and information about solar energy, Nova Terra Solar now has a presence in the Greater Centralia Area.

Locals and co-managing partners Cameron Clark and Camden Snow started the Centralia-based Nova Terra Solar operation last fall, opening the operation full-time in February.

The pair said they are dedicated to spreading awareness about the rising cost of energy bills in the area, and informing homeowners about the programs and savings available to them by way of solar energy.

“Our company handles programs through the Illinois Shines Program and Solar For All,” said Snow, who oversees installation and customer service. “We have availabilities for people with low incomes as well as higher incomes and of course businesses. We are trying to spread awareness that energy bills are just going to keep rising.”

According to Snow, one major energy company initiated $3 billion in rate increases over the last three years, noting that he and Clark expect to see some energy bills doubling or even tripling within the next four years.

“I know a lot of people that are in low-income housing, so they don’t have the option to put up panels. But they do have programs available to them,” said Clark, who oversees day-to-day operations and marketing. “Being able to offer value to people who can really see the benefit of that savings is huge for us.”

Clark and Snow said that while Nova Terra offers services throughout the entire state of Illinois, their focus areas will primarily consist of Centralia and Carlyle. The pair said they will be seeking to assist non-profits and small businesses in addition to local homeowners.

“There are a lot of really good non-profits that give back to the community here, and there are a lot of possibilities for them. There are ways that they can get a lot of their costs put back in through those available programs,” said Clark. “We will be getting in touch with small businesses as well, to talk about what we can do for them.”

Looking to the future, Clark and Snow said they have been developing a housing program that will assist community members wishing to purchase a home.

“We have designed a plan to get people in houses with nothing down. It’s kind of like a rent-to-own situation,” said Snow. “It’s meant for people with lower income or a bad credit score than doesn’t have enough down payment for the house. We are trying to launch this by the middle of this year, and our target for 2026 is to do at least 10 homes under that program.”

In the meantime, Clark and Snow said they are looking forward to not only helping the community but becoming a part of it.

“For us, being a part of the community is huge,” said Clark. “We’re just really happy to be here.”
