The Regional Executive Board of SSM Health gave a presentation on the mission, services, and network at SSM Health during the July 16 Centralia Chamber of Commerce lunch, held from 12:00pm until 1:00pm in the St. Mary’s Hospital gymnasium.
Monica Heinzmann, Vice President of Operations at SSM Health, spoke on SSM Health’s extensive network of providers, which includes Cardinal Glennon Hospital and St. Louis University Hosptial.
“Here at SSM Health we really are working together,” said Heinzmann.” Part of working together is working with our extensive network within SSM Health. We have a great hospital right here in Centralia and another one in Mt. Vernon (SSM Health Good Samaritan) and we work very closely together. We have an extensive network of providers throughout SSM Health that help us achieve our goals for our patients.”
Julie Robertson-Brooks, Community Health Manager for the Illinois Region of SSM Health, discussed the many initiatives SSM Health takes on beyond its hospitals to not only promote healthy living, but address the community’s needs. Robertson-Brooks mentioned the local mobile markets, a collaborative effort with the University of Ilinois Extension and United Way of South-Central Illinois, which benefits roughly 200 families each month.
“What it boils down to is partnership and collaboration,” Robertson-Brooks said. “All of these things would not be accomplished if it was just [SSM Health]. We are so thankful for those partnerships and those collaborations, and we are constantly looking additional opportunities.”
Kay Zibby-Damron Director of the Foundation of Southern Illinois at SSM Health spoke on the purpose and mission behind the foundation, saying, “It’s really simple. We are trying advance patient care, and we are trying to improve health outcomes for people here in this community. We do that by building relationships with people in our community and inspiring philanthropy and asking them to help us as we continue to do things that advance the quality of care and continue to help people address those barriers that we have.”
“And the reason we do that is because we care about this community, and we know that health and wellness effects every single one of us. We know that healthy people build healthy communities.”
A video package of the Sleep Study Center at St. Mary’s Hospital was shown, which depicted the higher quality of life achieved by local business professional and entrepreneur, Shannon Cooney, after undergoing a sleep study and receiving the required equipment.
