Hair of the Dog & The Barking Lot, in partnership with the Centralia Chamber of Commerce, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday in honor of its reopening under new membership.

The new ownership consists of Andrea and Jessica Wolenhaupt and Stacey, Dane, Kent Gabriel.

Speaking to those in attendance ahead of the ceremony, Andrea commended former owner Hannah Shores for building the business and thanked her family for their assistance with the reopening.

“We spent so much time here, five days a week,” she said. “There are so many familiar faces, and we are super thankful for that. Hannah built such a beautiful business…and I am happy to be able to be a part of it.”

Stacy added that due to the new five-person staff, the owners are hoping to provide regular hours of service.

Steve Whritenour, chairperson of the Marion County Board, also spoke about the new partnership between Hair of the Dog and the county’s animal control.

“Marion County was kind of in dire straits when it came to boarding our animals for animal control,” said Whritenour. “We all sat right in here three weeks ago, and we instantly discovered we had the same interest in mind. We have the same purpose when we bring in a dog, which is getting that dog back to their owners or getting that dog adopted or re-homed.”

Whritenour noted that four dogs have already been adopted since last week.

The event was catered by the Simplysoul, LLC.
