Both BoxDrop of Salem and Granny’s Kids’ Place will be featured exhibitors at the 2025 Home & Community Expo, held March 29 and 30 at Fairview Park Plaza.
With a diverse inventory of quality mattresses and home furnishings, BoxDrop of Salem has experienced steady growth since opening its doors in 2020.
Despite having been conceived during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, BoxDrop of Salem managed to not only find success, but outgrow its original location.
“We started in the Westgate Shopping Mall. Within six months we had expanded to needing more space, so we rented the unit next to us for more inventory,” said owner Tina Sager. “Then, in another six months we had already surpassed that, which brought us here to the Orchard Shopping Center.”
Initially a mattress-only supplier, Sager said she began carrying furniture a short time after the business’s relocation.
“We have different types of mattresses, from hybrids and gel mattresses to conventional mattresses and memory foam mattresses,” Sager explained. “We also carry a lot of furniture, from sectionals and sofa sets to recliners, accent chairs and wine cabinets.”
Sager noted that BoxDrop sees a fair amount of turnaround in a given week, with new items constantly entering the store.
“What you saw here last week may not be here this week,” said Sager. “We try to keep prices to where the average household can afford these things. I always think about the people who are just getting started; whether its someone sending a teenager to college, maybe someone downsizing their parents, or moving out onto their own for the first time.”
According to Sager, the idea to open BoxDrop of Salem came through the encouragement of her eldest daughter, Kayla, the owner of a BoxDrop location in Kokomo, Indiana.
In addition to the original idea, Sager launched another endeavor with her two daughters, Kayla and Katelyn. Granny's Kids' Place is an infant apparel and accessories outlet currently housed in her BoxDrop store.
“Granny’s Kids’ Place encompasses us designing our own bamboo and milk sleepers and outfits,” said Sager, adding that the business began selling product in June of last year. “Our spring and summer collections are beginning to roll out now, and we are slowly getting pieces in.”
Sager said all of the designs she and her daughters create are inspired by the stories, interests, hobbies, occupations and military service of their family members.
“We also have books blankets, some remote cars and foot-to-floor cars,” she said. “People are still learning who we are. This last year, especially in the fall we did go out to a lot of craft fairs. We operate online as well, and we have a link for those who like to shop online.”
With her mattress and furniture business furthering its ascent and her budding, homespun operation continuing to break ground, Sager seems poised to enjoy a bright and busy future with both endeavors.
