Veterinarian — Centralia, Illinois — Crooked Creek Animal Hospital

Since opening its doors in 1992, Crooked Creek Animal Hospital has remained Centralia’s premiere resource for quality animal care services.

“We typically see about 60 appointments a day, ranging anywhere from vaccines to illnesses,” said Crooked Creek practice manager, Jordan Sherman.

“We are the only clinic in town that has in-house bloodwork, and one of the only clinics with in-house X-ray. We do surgery four days a week; mostly spay and neuter, but we also do tumor removals, dentals, and some other soft tissue procedures.”

Originally located next door at Centralia Humane Society, Crooked Creek relocated to its current facility in 2005 and has since made continual upgrades to the building.

“We came to town as Dr. Basch was planning to retire. We moved in to our current location in 2005,” said Dr. Shawn Monken.

The clinic currently has three doctors on staff, including Dr. Kent Hartmann, DVM; Dr. Lauri Stover, DVM; and Dr. Shawn Monken, DVM, who is the 2020 recipient of the Centralia Chamber of Commerce’s Community Champion Award for the satellite clinic she oversaw during the 2019 closure of Crook Creek Bridge along Highway 161.

In addition to the doctors and Sherman’s position, Crooked Creek has five technicians, three receptions and an on-site kennel cleaner.

Sherman said the staff at Crooked Creek have always taken their role as a trusted outlet for local animal care seriously and are now serving the younger generations of their clientele.

“We have always taken great pride in helping the community and being [a local clinic] that is growing the animal community here,” Sherman said.

“We have a lot of the same names in the system. There are lot of our clients that have grown up with us, and now they are married and bringing their own kids in. It’s been really nice to see that much growth and to see how much our clinic means to this community.”
