While few and far between these days, Southern Illinois was once home to numerous productive coal mines. Rich in tradition, the area has also seen its share of tragedies. Local teacher and historian Kari A. Dillingham will delve into the history of coal mining in Southern Illinois and explore one of its biggest disasters - the Centralia Mine Disaster of 1947.
