Illinois Libraries Present
The Power of Story with Pulitzer Prize Winning Colson Whitehead
Wednesday, September 6, 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Kicking off our third season, we are thrilled to welcome two-time Pulitzer Prize winning author Colson Whitehead to our Illinois libraries. The #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Underground Railroad, The Nickel Boys, Harlem Shuffle, The Noble Hustle, Zone One, Sag Harbor, The Intuitionist, John Henry Days, Apex Hides the Hurt, and a collection of essays, Whitehead is only the fourth writer to win two Pulitzers in the Fiction category (for The Underground Railroad in 2017 and The Nickel Boys in 2020). His highly anticipated latest novel, Crook Manifesto, is a darkly funny tale of a city under siege, but also a sneakily searching portrait of the meaning of family.

This event is made possible by Illinois Libraries Present, a statewide collaboration among public libraries offering premier events.

Book Club for Adults
Tuesday, September 19, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

We are reading two books this month: To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchman, both by Harper Lee:

Set in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama, and featuring characters that have become indelible in American culture, Harper Lee’s beloved classic of Southern literature, To Kill a Mockingbird and her newly found novel, Go Set a Watchman , offer a haunting portrait of race and class, innocence and injustice, hypocrisy and heroism, tradition and transformation in the Deep South of the 1930s and 1950s that resonates today.
