Kaskaskia College to host Veterans Day Remembrance Celebration on November 9
Kaskaskia College is pleased to announce that it will host an Enduring Freedom Veterans Day Remembrance Celebration on Wednesday, November 9, on the college’s main campus. Kaskaskia College is proud to honor the service of those men and women who have given their time and energy to benefit our country. The morning will feature a free biscuit and gravy breakfast in the college’s student center from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for veterans and their guests.
A special program will be held in the Jane Knight Auditorium starting at 9:45 a.m. for students and the public. This year’s guest speaker will be Amanda Depew, Case Manager for the Supportive Services for Veterans Families at Chestnut Health Systems in Belleville. She is a former U.S. Air Force senior airman, a KC alumna, and a two-time graduate of SIUE with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work.
Depew served active duty from 2003 – 2007 as a Munitions System Journeyman. She is a recipient of the 2021 Illinois Student Veteran Leadership Award and The American Legion Department of Illinois “Embrace the Challenge Commander’s Award” 2021 – 2022. As a case manager for the Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF) program, she works with veterans and their families that are experiencing homelessness. The program's main goal is to support a veteran in any means necessary to get them into safe and affordable housing.
The morning will also feature the presentation of colors and a performance of military service songs by the KC Concert Choir under the direction of Lynda Marshall, Assistant Professor of Choral Music.
The program is free and open to the public. For more information, please call Travis Henson, KC Director of Marketing at 618-545-3177, or email thenson@kaskaskia.edu.
