Five Strategies for Attracting and Retaining Youth in Rural Communities

Join us for this free workshop!

The exodus of young people between the ages of 21 and 37 from their rural communities is a nationwide trend and has been occurring for almost a decade. A recent study revealed that as many as 81% of young people surveyed would prefer not to live in their local communities as adults. (Howley 2010)

Five Strategies for Attracting and Retaining Youth in Rural Communities was developed by Pam Schallhorn in 2015 to assist community leaders and others in developing formal plans to reverse this trend.

Presented by Pamela S. Schallhorn, M.A., Educator, Community & Economic Development, from UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS EXTENSION in Bond, Clinton, Jefferson, Marion, and Washington counties.
